Welcome back to school!
It has been a busy, but exciting start to 2017. The children are very excited about locating their class bird feeder in the school grounds. I told them about a little robin who sits on my office windowsill and taps on the window with his beak. Each class has been given a bird feeder and some seed. They have located the feeder in the school grounds in a place that they can see from their classroom window. I have given them the task of identifying which birds come to their feeder. We are also very excited about taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch in March.
My assembly this week was focussed around why we feed garden birds. I shared an interesting fact with the children regarding the dawn chorus. Did you know that birds sing and twitter at dawn because they are joyful that they have survived the night? With the cold weather and snow threatening to arrive very soon, it is important that we provide additional food for birds to keep them alive.
Please encourage the children to watch/feed/identify the birds at home.
