Useful Files for Children
Nursery have been reading lots of traditional tales this term, our favourites have been The Three Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. This week in Nursery the window had been broken and we found some footprints on the floor! We dressed up as the police and investigated the prints, “he went that way” a child observed and pointed out the classroom door. The children followed the footprints to the outside area and saw the wolf through the window in Mrs Oliver’s classroom!!
Over the week we have been retelling our favourite parts of the stories through our play, even using some of the repeated phrases from the books to help us. We have also been developing our cutting skills by making masks of our favourite characters. We have also explored different paint techniques to create the three bears and use collage to make little red riding hood in the woods.
Next week we will be reading The Gingerbread Man, I wonder if we can catch him.
In Nursery we have been reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, we loved listening to the story and could join in with some of the repeated phrases, like “Fee Fi Fo Fum”. A giant beanstalk grew in the role play area and we took turns at being the giant and stomping around Nursery!
In phonics we have started to learn phase two letter sounds, we are already getting very good at recognising a few. But we are finding it a bit tricky to form some of the letters correctly, particularly the ‘a’ sound. We have learnt a rhyme to help us to remember how to form ‘a’ correctly, “around the apple and down the leaf”, but we must always remember to start in the right place.
Next week in Nursery we are going to be doing lots of crafting, we will be starting to make decorations ready to decorate the Nursery. We will be learning some new techniques and exploring some new materials.
We will also be having a visitor to Nursery, we will be making a Christingle and finding out about what a Christingle means to Christians. Then on Friday a minister will be coming in to hold a mini service for us.
