Year 1 Updates!
In English we are learning about fairy tales. We will be reading a variety of stories and will then sequence, retell, draw, write and talk about them. Our main writing focus in Year One is to always remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in every piece of work.
In maths we are learning about place value (what a number is worth) and will move on to addition and subtraction.
In theme lessons we will be using maps, atlases and globes to look at the United Kingdom and its countries. We will also learn about landmarks across the UK and recap on the 7 continents and 5 oceans. We will be exploring hot and cold areas of world in relation to the equator. We will compare these countries and look at the weather there, animals that live there, schools, people and clothing etc.
Year One have had a very busy week. On Tuesday The Tiger Who Came to Tea, came to our classroom! There was a dreadful mess in our classrooms and we worked hard as investigators to work out who was responsible.
We have also been learning about the value of each digit in a number. We know that the 'ty' numbers are multiples of ten and come first in a two digit number!
We have begun practising for our Christmas play and can't wait to perform for our families!
